πŸ’¦ Splish, Splash, and a Whole Lot of Awkward Bouncing at the Aqua Fit class (25-004)

Aqua aerobics...what is that?

So, this bear went to aqua aerobics for the first time. Yes, you read that right. Picture me in the pool with about 30 other brave souls, most of whom were old enough to have taught me how to drive a station wagon. The average age? Probably 75. Which, technically, made me the youngster. (Finally, I found a room where I’m the kid again!)

Our fearless leader for this hour of splashy chaos was Tommy, a former disco queen from the 70s and 80s who, I swear, must have lived at Studio 54. He strutted along the pool deck like he still had Donna Summer in his ears, waving his arms and yelling things like, β€œJump! Bounce! Work those hips!”

Meanwhile, I’m in the water looking like a ship that’s lost its rudder. Everyone else is hopping in sync, and I’m… well… hopping-ish. My arms are going east, my legs are going west, and I’m pretty sure I invented a new move called the β€œDrowning Bear Shuffle.”

And yet…it was fun. For an entire hour, I got to laugh at myself, splash around, and pretend that my awkward flailing was just β€œinterpretive dance.” Nobody cared that I wasn’t coordinated. Nobody cared that I was out of rhythm. We were all just moving, hopping, and keeping the beat of life going, one splash at a time.

Walking out of that pool, I felt lighter. Not just in the physical sense (though, let’s be honest, water makes everyone feel like an Olympian), but lighter in spirit. Aqua aerobics may not be my natural habitat, but sometimes it’s good to look ridiculous. Sometimes it’s good to move, to laugh, and to let the disco queen in charge remind you that exercise doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to happen.

So here’s to Tommy, to Donna Summer, and to every one of us who’s still bouncing, splashing, and dancing our way through these senior years.

So what was your best inspirational day at the gym like?Β Β
