Day 2: Dinner at Maestro Taquero – Condesa.
Neighborhood/Area:ย Condesa, Cuidad de Mรฉxico, Mรฉxico.
ย
By the time evening rolled around, we were running on fumes after our 4 a.m. wake-up for the pyramids. The sun, the stairs, and the sheer awe of Teotihuacรกn had drained every ounce of energy we had left.ย All we wanted was food, tequila, and maybe a quick resurrection via tacos.ย
So the 6 of us wandered the neighborhood before dinner, the streets full of people, music spilling from open windows, and that warm Condesa energy that makes you feel like you landed in the best kind of city. Maestro Taquero welcomed us at 7 p.m., handed us free Coronas to start, and led us up to a charming second-floor table made from barrels and glass. It felt cozy and a little theatrical in the best way.
Service was delightfully over the top, in a local, attentive way. At one point it seemed like half the staff was looking after our table, which meant drinks arrived fast, salsas kept appearing, and small kindnesses stacked up. Chris and I shared a massive margarita served in a shallow bowl, and I had the Tacos Don Roberto, a perfect skirt steak taco with just enough cheese to make it comfort food and a little dangerous. They brought out eight or nine salsas, rounds of water, and when a wrong plate briefly shuffled through the table they fixed it fast and then sent rounds of tequila to smooth things over.
ย
We finished with lemon tiramisรบ and a cream cake, accepted an extra double shot of some special Tequila for the road, and walked home slowly, the night settling into our shoes. It was a full, silly, generous kind of meal, the kind that makes a trip feel like it has already gifted you a memory.

โWe didnโt steal itโฆ but only because we couldnโt agree on whoโd get custody. Tequila can make you think the wildest plots.โ ๐น
โRight at the entrance, Maestro Taquero makes its values clear โ everyoneโs welcome here. A small sign with a big heart.โ ๐ณ๏ธโ๐โค๏ธ๐ฒ๐ฝ
โGuacamole, beef, and tomatoes walked into a barโฆ and never left our table.โ
โProof that sometimes itโs better not to ask questions โ just eat, smile, and sip your margarita.โ
โSomewhere beneath the potato haystack lies dinner. Fortunately, the margarita required no decoding.โ
โArgentinian beef tacos with fresh avocado and handmade tortillas, served alongside roasted bone marrow. After a 4 a.m. start and a day at the pyramids, this was pure salvation on a plate.โ
โTeamwork makes the margarita disappear faster.โ
"Now this is how you end a night in Mexico City โ a dessert platter so cute we almost felt guilty eating it. Almost. After all that tequila and tacos, even the little white dogs were starting to look like a good idea."
